Graphic Novels are Legit Lit

Yes, I wrote it: Graphic novels (gns) are legit lit. They do, however, have to be graphic novels, replete with closure, and not simply illustrated texts. GNs are their own medium (see Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art) and can be used to teach multimodal literacy (as you already know since you are already doing it). Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and your expertise with me on the 22nd - your enthusiasm for the graphic novel and your insight into how to teach it made my birthday very special. Here’s the powerpoint from the session (click here). Let me know if there is anything I can do for you - and thank you for teaching. peace & possibility - amanda
